Barbara Carrellas shows participants how to have an orgasm with clothes on! A benefit for Clitoraid...

The Erotic Heritage Museum welcomed Barbara Carrellas last night, who flew into town from New York to teach her amazing "Gender-Free Orgasm" workshop.

Yes, it really is possible to have an orgasm with your clothes on and without touching yourself! We had a room full of fully clothed people writhing around the floor making all sorts of wonderful noises and blissing out simply through implementing a simple breathing technique Barbara shared with us all. It was great!!! Orgasms are always great, but to have one in a room full of people all fully clothed and feel the energy surging through the cells was a real treat, especially here in Vegas!

Thanks Barbara! And thank you to Nadine and the group from Clitoraid who made this event happen. The workshop was a fund-raiser for a Hospital being built in West Africa which will offer Clitoral Repair Surgery.  For anyone wanting to donate to this very worthy cause please visit: www.clitoraid.orgwww.clitoraid.org

And for more information on Barbara's Urban Tantra Workshops visit: www.urbantantra.comwww.urbantantra.com. Highly recommend her playful, down-to-earth, fun seminars, books and workshops!

Killers Movie Premier at the Museum a perfect kick-off to AVN weekend...

What an amazing night! Thank you Jack the Zipper for choosing the Museum to host the Premiere of Killers! We had a great turn out. And thanks to all the Stars and Staff of the Museum for showing up, helping out, and being so sexy! A perfect start to the AVN weekend festivities!

Carol Queen starts off the Free Lecture Series, and Nina Hartley comes to the Museum to show her support...

Thank you Carol for your wonderful presentation at the Museum, which started off our Free Lecture Series intended to bring greater awareness about this wonderful facility and draw in new people so they get to experience what a diverse array of events and activities we have here.

Carol performed her one-woman show, Peep Show, about her time at the Lusty Lady Theater in San Francisco - one of the old school Peep Shows where the girls in the Pleasure Booths are behind a glass window and the guys have to pay $5 for 3 minutes of interaction. She had some great stories to share. Quite often people just wanted to chat, but the message of her show was that people just want to be accepted, whether they be scruffy bible bashers, or mid-western couples.

Entertaining and enlightening, we had a really good turn out, including famous guests such as Nina Hartley who has always be a long time supporter of the Museum. And Dr. Adele, another graduate from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality.

Stay tuned for more upcoming events...

Thanks to Las Vegas City Life for their write up too: http://lasvegascitylife.com/sections/ae/citylife-picks/picks-carol-queen%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%98peep-show%E2%80%99.html

New Trip Advisor Review for the Museum

“Yes, it is about THAT!”
4 of 5 starsReviewed November 24, 2012 NEW
An important learning experience for every American adult to truly understand just how sexualy repressed our society can be. This is a museum so displays are tastefully presented and the staff are serious about the topic, but friendly to chat with. Display begins with extensive examples of how the First Amendment of the Constitution has been tested by the courts, censors and public sentiment over the years. Great "Wall of Shame" for notorious politicians and public figures who hypocritically fell from grace. Great historic displays of art and implements-- nope, we didn't invent sex in the last 50 years and it wasn't invented by Western Civilization, either. (Those ancient Asians can be really erotic!)

While this is not a family-friendly place because of age restrictions, solo, couple or friends will have an experience that is sure to stimulate conversation for days to come. I greatly admire the museum staff and benefactors for their bravery and tenacity. This is a treasure for Las Vegas and The West.

New Trip Advisor Reviews - 4 & 5 Stars!

Reviewed November 1, 2012 NEW
My husband and I visited the museum early afternoon. The exhibits range from pornographic video to sex toys through the ages, to art work (statues, paintings etc). Reading up on the history was interesting, it shows how long certain things have been around for (and I am not talking 10's of years here). The sculptures were absolutely amazing and if you really want to see something special, please visit their toilet/restroom (which by the way was one of the cleanest ones I have seen during the whole of my Las Vegas trip!).
I think the only thing I was missing was a better flow from one section to the other, but that is a personal opinion. The decor is a bit dated, but the museum depends on donations so the more people visit, the more chance they will have to make improvements.
The staff are really friendly and they have a great shop. They even have for the locals a small library of all sorts. I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I am glad we went. To continue the theme we went to see Cirque du Soleil's Zumanity in the evening. Read up on this show's review and you know what I mean!

Four Stars!

For a hoot, my husband and I (both in our early 60s) though we would check out this museum. We got there about 10min before it opened. It is located next door to a large adult shop and as we sat in the car, I began reconsidering our decision. Luckily we went in. The staff is so friendly and while the museum does have a bit of a "dated" look and atmosphere, it is so full of interesting items, you don't even notice after a few minutes. There is no real "flow" to the museum, but I liked that because we were able to roam around, do our own thing, and see what we wanted as we wanted to see it. If you are someone who is easily offended you don't want to go, because there are a number of graphic images... but what else would you expect?! We enjoyed ourselves very much, not only because of the exihibits, but also because of the friendly, informative staff.

Visited here one evening in September with the boyfriend. We both loved the place & found it really interesting, a great mix of exhibits and the staff were really friendly. The later opening hours were brill (10pm some nights) & the $15 entrance fee very reasonable, I have recommended it all my friends. Hope to come back in a couple of years!! :-) (also defiantly use the bathroom, its a nice surprise!!)

This museum is marvelous! Learned a lot of historical things about sex films that I didn't know. Also there was a beautiful display of bronze art work while we were there (the displays change as their donations or things on loan come in). I highly recommend visiting this museum! If you are at all curious about sex, the history of sex, films, peep shows, art work, etc. - just go and enjoy.

Erotic Heritage Museum featured as part of the Vegas Valley Book Festival

-->
Erotic Heritage Museum featured in an Illustrated Word Public Art Presentation as part of the Vegas Valley Book Festival, November 1-3.

Markus Tracy, the site on site Public Artist, will be speaking about this project at the Poetry Courtyard Stage, of the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth Street, on Saturday November 3, from 11:45am to 12:00pm, accompanied by Dorian Gomez, the resident curator of the Museum.

According to Markus Tracy, the site on site artist, there will be a total of 5 site on site locations.

SITE ON SITE is a [site-specific] art project which coincided with the first annual “Day in the Arts District” festival. The city of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs accepted Markus’ proposal to paint five text paintings at specific locations throughout the Las Vegas Downtown Arts District. Along with text paintings, a map will be created to engage viewers with the artist statement and location of each project.

Each text represents a title that is evocative of its immediate surroundings.  Roman Times text was used to show a level of truth; typical of a newspaper or literary text. Each text is punctuated by a red dot one foot in diameter proportional in height to each text.  The red dot signifies a location or sign to observe the title in relation to the surrounding environment.  This kind of mapping serves as a signifier prompting the viewer to ponder the personal, social, political, and environmental landscape.

The Term “lost & found” was chosen as a collaborative effort of Markus Tracy, the site on site artist, and Dorian Gomez, the resident curator of the Museum.

The site on site is chosen not so much for what is on the site right now but the property itself and the area.

As Dorian commented, “The Museum is located in a strange area. It has vagrants. Beheaded birds sometimes show up in the parking lot. Visitors from out of town wake up drunk outside. People get lost trying to find the Museum, or find it by chance as they are driving by.”

She also said it is almost like Vegas forgot about this area, even though it is only a block away from the strip. The main focus on the city is to keep people on the strip.

And that is true too of the nature of what exists on this property now.

Much of our lost erotic heritage can be found here at the Museum.

And it could be said that people who feel a little “lost” can “find” themselves here, too. Even some of the staff who volunteer here have found their life’s purpose doing their graduate studies through the Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Sexuality that is also associated with the Museum (The Exodus Trust in San Francisco founded both the Institute and the Museum).

So come and “find” yourself or get “lost” within the wonders our forgotten erotic heritage here at the Museum!
